XP

you MUST get it. The improvements over the original are insane

Not least because its all a hell of a lot more flexible in the tilesets, and, is generally less ugly to spend time in. I did actually start making a game in the oldschool but got this. XP can actually use mp3s and jpegs as well! and comes with a host of actually decent tilesets as standard

oh, youre looking for the link, hohoho

awesome resource site. its under downloads! enjoy, its freakin ace. Ive been busy this weekend with 3ds max but ive done a HOARDE of notes and sketches.

One thing though - theyve gotten rid of the facial expression thing. Ie, facesets.

Also, the tilesets are good because you have 3 layers now instead of just 2. So you can have a floor, then a table, then something on the table. Very handy! And its altogether much better.

so how much of a game have you done?

also it would be better for me to have you doing a game seperate from me, give me motivation to be bothered to do something.

well, you see the thing being that im trying to make a decent balance atm - as i think you did with yours to a large extent. It would be excrutiatingly funny to jus mash somehing together in a horrible glitching freakfast of RPGmania, and it would be very fitting, and very hilarious. But at the same time i would actually like to use it as an excercise into the practical side of game making so, im trying to do it ... as "professionally" as i can (within the limits of RPG Maker. More focused on the planning and workflow etc).

I do have enough inspiration to really put the hours in though. I will however, keep it a total secret - even then, i was about to explain the general gist of it. But i will keep it all hidden simply because, i know the pitfalls are that if you release it with an hour of gameplay, you have the urge to want to start afresh. So, as hard as it may be, i will keep it all to myself! (in terms of demos etc)

Im actually really surprised at just how quick im picking all the hard stuff up, and just how considerably more im understanding it than when i first had a crack at it. I mean, apart from the mcnonagon sprite, i literally could do that 5 min demo i made a few years back in about 15 mins! id imagine a lot of it is just through talking to you about it over the years and its gradually just introvenously oozed into the way i think, haha, especially with AI paths and switches etc.

Anyhoo, yes, it would be awesome if we either both made our own game (although clearly without any element of competition! which goes without saying) or working on a game together. I mean realistically though working on a game together isnt really an option - as much as id love to, practically speaking it would just be so incredibly hard to pull off with the distance and obly have the net etc

anyway, prattling on. Cant wait to see your next joy. Do you plan your stories out at all or just ... go with the chronicle flow?
